Sparta- Philip C. Cox age 90 formerly of Church Rd., in Sparta passed away Friday evening May 11, 2012 at the Canandaigua VA Hospital after a long illness. He was born in Wellsville on April 16, 1922 a son of the late Charles and Agnes (McGriggin) Cox. On October 7, 1944 he was married to Erma Smith Cox who predeceased him on June 26, 2003. He was also predeceased by his siblings, John, James, Joseph, Walter, Vincent, Vernon, Richard, Donald, Robert and Mary Doris Cox, Ruth Long, Katherine Lamb and Mary Flickner. Philip was a US Army veteran serving during WWII. He was an accountant for Pinko in Lima retiring in 1976. Phil was a communicant of the Holy Family Catholic Community at St. Mary's Church. He was a member and Past Commander of the Daniel Goho Post # 87 of The American Legion. He is survived by two sons, Philip P. Cox of Sparta and Donald E. (Vicki) Cox of Williamson, a daughter-in-law, Karen Howell of Dansville; five grandchildren: Jason (Mekka) Cox, Joseph (Shirley) Cox, Leah Cox, and Cassie (Kevin) Gunderson and Daniel (Jessie) Howell; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret "Rita" Fannaro of Geneseo and Theresa Shull of Dansville, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Friends may call Tuesday from 4-6 pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville. Friends are asked to meet at St. Mary's Church in Dansville on Wednesday at 10 am to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial for Philip. Interment will be in Kiehle Cemetery Sparta. In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to St. Mary's Church 40 Elizabeth St., Dansville, NY 14437 or the Alzheimer's Association, 435 E. Henrietta Rd., Rochester, NY 14620.
