Dansville- John F. Rauber 69, formerly of Dansville passed away late Sunday evening June 12, 2011, at the home of his sister Peggy in Rochester. He was born in Dansville on February 23, 1942, a son of the late Wilfred "Wutz" J. and Mildred E. (Dunne) Rauber. He was also predeceased by a brother James Rauber. John was a communicant of the Holy Family Catholic Community at St. Mary's Church in Dansville, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a former member of the Dansville Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Dansville Rotary Club, and the Daniel Goho Post # 87 of The American Legion. When he was a resident of Dansville he had worked for Bennett Brother's Construction and the former Thomas and Dwyer Shoe Store. In his free time he enjoyed photography, mastering computers, and spending time with his nieces and nephews, which he considered his children. John was very active with the Boy Scouts of America; he served as Scoutmaster for Troup 38 at St. Mary's Church in Dansville for over twenty five years. He was the former Executive Director of the Five Rivers Council Thunderbird District of the Boy Scouts. He served as the director of the Camp Gorton Boy Scout Camp on Waneta Lake. He also served as the advancement chairman for the Thunderbird District. He was a recipient of the Silver Beaver award which is given to those who implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service. It is given to those who do not actively seek it. He is survived by his siblings, Joseph "Jerry" Rauber, Carolyn Hitchcock both of Dansville, Mary Ann Ehrementraut and Margaret "Peggy" Rauber both of Rochester. John is also survived by several nieces' nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. Friends may call Friday from 2-4 & 6=8pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., in Dansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00am at St. Mary's Church in Dansville. Interment will be in Holy Cross cemetery, Dansville.
