William "Bill" Smith Obituary

Bill was born in Chicago, IL, on March 5, 1927, a son of the late Frank and Gertrude (Howell) Smith. On December 31, 1949, he was married to Stefanie (Swiech) Smith who predeceased him on December 22, 2007.


Bill was the bank president at the former Fleet/Norstar Bank in Dansville for many years. He was active with the Dansville Rotary Club for over forty years and had served as President, Musical ticket chairman, and was the recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow award. Bill was a thirty-three year member of the Daniel Goho Post # 87 of the American Legion, a communicant of the Holy Family Catholic Community at St. Mary's Church in Dansville, where he was a Eucharistic Minister with his dear wife Stefanie and served communion to parishioners in the DDSO Group Homes in Dansville.


He is survived by three sons, Michael (Cheryl) Smith of Lake Tahoe, Stephen Smith of Hemlock and John (Erin) Smith of Ontario. A sister Kathleen Smith of Fulton. Seven grandchildren, Summer, Stephanie, Samantha, Ben, Vanessa, Ryan, Christopher and three great-granddaughters, Dacia, Ari and Kennedy and several nieces and nephews.


Friends may call Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00am at St. Mary's Church in Dansville. Interment with full military honors will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dansville.
