I was a painfully shy and misdirected pre-teen who had lost my Mom at a young age when Miss Bacon befriended me. She encouraged me to play basketball, this in the "dark ages" of girls' sports in high school. She and I had many long talks about my life and my abilities, and when I entered high school at Schroeder, I did, indeed, play on the girls' team. I never forgot this special, caring, warm hearted lady, as I went on to become a teacher myself. She was truly a positive role model for me and will ALWAYS be special to me. I can only hope, as I look forward to my own retirement in another year, that I have made as much of an impact on even one of my students, as she did on me!
