Obituary of Anthony Joseph Caito

Dansville- Anthony Joseph "Tony" Caito age 93, passed away late Friday evening July 9, 2021, at Morgan Estates in Geneseo surrounded by his family. He was born in Perry NY, on January 15, 1928, the son of the late Michael L. and Dominica (LaBarbara) Caito. On June 28, 1952, he was married to the former Helen Lowery Caito, who predeceased him on October 30, 2014. Tony was a WWII US Army veteran. He was a former guidance counselor and 4th 5th 6th grade teacher at the Ellis B. Hyde Elementary School in Dansville for 32 years retiring in 1984. Tony was a communicant of the Holy Family Catholic Community at St. Mary's Church in Danville, where he served on the Parish Council, instructed both Pre Cana and Confirmation and was a Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a longtime active member of the Dansville Lions Club where he served at secretary for many years and was awarded Lion of the Year in 1985 and Career Lion in 2017. He was also a member of the Daniel Goho Post # 87 of the American Legion, the Dansville Fish and Game Club, the Wednesday afternoon card club, Thursday Night Bowling League the Dansville Retired Teachers Association and a social member of the Union Hose Company. He is survived by his children Marguerite (John) Chapman, Michelle (Thomas) Lemen and Michael (Beth) Caito; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a sister inlaw Dorothy Lowery and several nieces' nephews, and friends. At Tony's request there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at St. Mary's Church in Dansville on Thursday July 15, at 11:00 am. Interment with Full Military honors will be next to Helen in Holy Cross cemetery Dansville. Arrangements are by the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St. Dansville.
