Dansville - Dr. George W. Ball age 79, passed away peacefully Monday morning May 11, 2020, at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Warren, Pennsylvania, on April 3, 1941, a son of the late William Lincoln and Dorothy (Levy) Ball. He was predeceased by his first wife Sandra Shirk Ball. On December 15, 1984, he was married to former Rita Burns Learn Ball, who predeceased him in 2005. George is survived by two sons: Christopher (Mary Kay) Ball of Dansville, and Timothy (Kristine) Ball of Fairport. He is also survived by 6 stepchildren; Derrick (Cindy) Learn of Lexington, SC, Douglas (Kawren) Learn of Lexington, SC, Jolene (James) Boring of Austin, TX, Janice Forbes (Jeff) of Fremont, MI, Tobias Learn (Judy Pastusec) of Livonia, NY and Thomas (Stacy) Learn of Lexington, SC. He is also survived by a brother Edward L. (Donna) Ball of Warren, PA, and a sister Dorothy (Oran) Stewart of Warren, PA, 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. George was a Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at Alfred University for 38 years, earning a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Syracuse University in 1972 and an M.S. in Computer Science from RIT in 1987. He was a bass in the Warsaw Chord Busters Barbershop Chorus for 20 years and enjoyed playing and listening to Jazz and the Blues. During retirement, George loved spending time with family and being on the golf course as much as humanly possible. A graveside service for family will be observed. A life celebration will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St. Dansville. Online memorials may be left at HindleFuneralHome.com.
