Dansville- Bette C. Griese age 89, passed away early Wednesday morning December 4, 2013, at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville following a short illness. She was born in Dansville on July 24, 1924, a daughter of the late Frank and Mildred (Carney) Towne. On January 23, 1943 she was married to William "Bill" Griese, who predeceased her on October 26, 2001. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Violet Walther, William and Oliver Towne. Bette was a life member of the Daniel Goho Post #87 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a charter member of the Frank J. Casbolt # 6780 VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was an active member of the Royal Neighbors Association for over 60 years and served as the President of the Oracle of Royal Neighbors. She was a member of the Wednesday Night Bowling League at the former Brae Burn. In her free time she enjoyed going to the casino and playing "Let It Ride" She had worked for the former FA Owen Publishing Company; she was a cashier for the Market Basket and IGA Stores. She was a crossing guard at the corner of Main and Maple Streets for many years. Bette is survived by her son, Keith (Diane) Griese of West Sparta, grandchildren, Shawn (Tara) Griese of Virginia, Shannon (Tricia) Griese of Dansville, Robert Buss of Cortland, Roxanne (Eric) Buss of Newark Valley, Krista (Keith) Macomber, Bonnie (Tim) Schuster, great-grandchildren, Keith, Kevin, Gabrielle, Natalia, Coralyn, Deborah, Trevor, Katelyn, Ashley, Mathew, Mackenzie, Mollie, and Masin; a brother, Duane Towne of Florida and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Saturday from1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc. 271 Main St. in Dansville, where a memorial service will be held at the completion of calling hours. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville. Online remembrances may be left at HindleFuneralHome.com. In lieu of flowers please make memorials to the either the Legion or VFW Ladies Auxiliary or the American Legion Renovation Fund.
