Obituary of Marina Rappas

She was born to Christos and Vasiliki Frisiras in the village of Macri Valtsa, Corinth, Greece on February 23, 1923. She came to this country in 1948 and married George Rappas on October 3, 1948 in Dansville, NY where she resided for the remainder of her life. Marina was deeply devoted to her family and raised 2 loving daughters. In addition to being a wonderful homemaker, she worked many years as a seamstress at the Tom Frisiras Dry Cleaning and tailoring business in Dansville, a family owned business. She was an excellent cook and her gift of hospitality warmed the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Her Greek pastries were enjoyed by many. In addition to her love of Greek music and dancing, she was also a talented cake decorator, gardener and also embroidered intricate designs on tablecloths. Marina was a devout Christian and was a member at both the Holy Spirit and Annunciation Greek Orthodox Churches in Rochester, NY. In addition, she was a friend to local churches in her community. Marina was pre-deceased in death by her husband George Rappas; her parents, Christos and Vasiliki Frisiras; her brother Costadinos Frisiras and her grandson Jonathan David Pender just 2 weeks prior. She is survived by her daughter's Bess R. Pender of Dansville and Christina R. Granato of Syracuse; her brothers, Dimitrios (Sophia) Frisiras of Corinth, Greece; Peter Frisiras and Thomas (Joanne) Frisiras of Geneseo; her grandsons Brandon Pender of Dansville and Andrew Pender of Rochester. Many nieces, nephews and cousins in the United States and the country of Greece. Friends called at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville. A funeral service was held at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Spirit, 835 South Ave., Rochester. Interment was in Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville.
