Obituary of Jonathan David Pender

He was born in Boynton Beach, Florida on November 19, 1982 and spent his formative years living in Boca Raton, Florida. In the summer of 1995, he and his family moved to Dansville, NY, which is the childhood home to his parents. He graduated from Dansville Senior High School and the Culinary Arts Program at BOCES in 2002. Upon graduation, he attended Finger Lakes Community College and then accepted employment with Norweigen Cruise Lines in the dining area. That experience allowed him to cruise and explore the Hawaiian Islands for several years. Most recently, he was employed at Macy's in Victor, NY as a sales clerk. Jonathan was a life- long devoted Orthodox Christian. He became an acolyte at the age of 7 and later served as a camp counselor with the church. He was a Boy Scout to the rank of life and tried to live his life in accordance with the principles learned from church and his scouting experiences. He enjoyed a variety of sports that included rollerblading, waterskiing, snow skiing, ice skating, tennis, bike riding and on his 25th birthday he sky-dived in Hawaii! Jonathan was a kind man that wanted to aide in comforting others in need by offering an ear to listen and a compassionate heart to speak advice. His earthly presence will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. But his spirit will live on in the hearts of the countless number of lives that he touched. Jonathan was pre-deceased in death by his grandfather's Donald W. Pender and George Rappas; and great-grandparents: Achilles and Vasiliki Rappas and Christos and Vasiliki Frisiras. He is survived by his parents Bess R. Pender and Donald S. Pender; his brothers, Brandon and Andrew Pender; his grandmothers Marina F. Rappas and Doris S. Pender; and several aunts, uncles and cousins in America and in the country of Greece. Friends called at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville. A funeral service was held at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Spirit, 835 South Ave., Rochester. Interment was in Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville.
