Obituary of Claude Raymond West

Dansville- Claude R. West age 95, passed away peacefully Friday evening September 20, 2013, at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville. He was born in Huntington, WV on December 11, 1917, a son of the late William A. and Ida Mae Barrett. He was also predeceased by two children, Eileen and Roger West. Claude was a WWII US Army veteran serving as a high speed radio operator with the 23rd Signal Corps. and was involved in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was discharged on August 31, 1945, and was awarded the European Africa Middle Eastern Service Medal with five Bronze Stars. After the war he received his Bachelor's Degree and went on to become a Bacteriologist for the USDA in Beltsville MD. He was fluent in many different languages; he enjoyed photography, classical music, and reading. He was a member of the Scottsburg Church of Christ. He is survived by his children, Claudia (Robert) Guthrie of Dansville, Clay West, Eric (Shelly) West both of GA, Shari Forbes, Dean West both of MD, and Tanya West of CA, eighteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc. 271 Main St., Dansville. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
