Dansville- Kenneth J. Bennett age 88, formerly of Dansville, passed away peacefully Thursday July 25, 2013, in Florida. He was born in Dansville, on January 25, 1925, at the site of the current Dansville Post Office. He was the son of the late Jud and Mabel (Rathbun) Bennett. He was also predeceased by his wife Geraldine (Moose) Bennett, on December 4, 2006, a son Michael J. Bennett, on April 22, 1997, and his brother former Town Clerk, Floyd "Juddy" Bennett and Edna (Tony) Repoza. Ken proudly served his country as a member of the US Navy during WWII as a ship's cook. He was a 67 year member and a Past Commander (1960-1961) of the Daniel Goho Post # 87 of The American Legion. Ken was instrumental in gathering the necessary signatures from the Main St. merchants in Dansville to install flag holders on the parking meters along Main St., the flags to this day are provided, installed and removed by the members of Post 87 on Patriotic occasions. He was also a longtime member of the James H. Jackson Hose Company of the Dansville Fire Department. Ken had worked for the US Postal Service for thirteen years, before working at the former TB Hospital in Mt. Morris. Ken and John Huver owned and operated the Rainbow Grill on Main St., together for several years. He had also worked at SUNY Geneseo for ten years before moving to Florida in 1980. He always enjoyed the beautiful weather in Florida, and often said, "It felt like being on vacation every day." He is survived by his dear friend Tula Ryan of Florida, a son, John L. Bennett Sr., (Charlene Kreiley) of Dansville, a daughter, Marcia (Jack) Kiniry of Florida, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. Ken was a friend to all; he was a caring father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was greatly loved and will be missed by all. A graveside service with full military honors will be held on Saturday October 5, at 11:00 am in the Veterans section of Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville.
