Dansville- William C. "Bill" Freas age 89, passed away unexpectedly at home early Thursday morning June 22, 2017.

He was born in Dansville on January 3, 1928, a son of the late James and Cecelia (Hollowell) Freas. He was predeceased by his siblings, James Jr., Frank, Robert, Edward, Dolores, and Gertrude Freas, Isabelle Sanders, Hazel Galton and Sarah Earner.

Bill was a US Army veteran serving from 1950 to 1952. Bill was the Superintendent for the Village of Dansville Water and Sewer Department for many years. Following his retirement Bill took great pride in caring for the upkeep of Babcock Park in Dansville. He was a member of the Post # 402 of the American Legion in Wayland and the Loyal Order of the Moose # 1130. In Bill's earlier years he played with the country group, the Genesee Valley Hillbilly's.

He is survived by his wife the former Barbara Monroe Freas; two sons, William C. "Billy" Freas Jr., and Jody (Val) Freas; a daughter, Betsy Freas; a sister, Mary Monahan, grandchildren Conner Freas, Melissa Steen and Canin Hill and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Thursday June 29 at 11:00 am in Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville. Arrangements are by the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc. 271 Main St., Dansville. Online remembrances may be left at HindleFuneralHome.com.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Wayland American Legion, 102 main St., Wayland, NY 14572.
