Obituary of Elizabeth Smith

Dansville- Elizabeth “Betsy” Smith, age 61, passed away Saturday afternoon March 11, 2017, at Noyes Memorial Hospital, after a long illness with cancer. She was always surrounded by her loving family and pets. She was born in Dansville on May 23, 1955, a daughter of the late Robert and Patricia (Perry) Jerome. She was married on May 29,1993, to Douglas M. Smith, who predeceased her in 2008. He was a loving husband, father, and life time member of post 6780, and one of the area’s finest musicians. She was also predeceased by her son, Charlie D. Smith in 2012, smiling, happy son, contractor, and wood worker with many talents. Recently lost brother in law Donald Smith (Jeanne Smith). Betsy was a long-time employee, and manager at the CVS store in Dansville, she was also a lifetime member of the Dansville VFW, serving as secretary for over 10 years. She enjoyed many things in her life those include, golfing, painting, camping, playing pool, going for long drives, listening to music, making bon fires, and enjoying time with her grandchildren. Betsy is survived by her son, Patrick (Amy) Mullen of Corning, daughters, Kristi (Jayme) Longbine of Hemlock, Maria L. Smith of Dansville, sisters, Terry (Dave) Walker, Kathy (Don) Kinney, a brother, Stewart (Pat) Jerome, four beautiful grandchildren, Nathan, Rayna, Haylen, and Leah, all who were the light in grandma’s eyes. Also, Betsy was lucky enough to find a fine man and best friend Bill Bennett, who also gave me and shared the love of his children, Cory (Brittany), Curtis (Tiffany) and Janelle (Jaime) Bennett, and three beautiful grandchildren, Landon, Trevor, Jude, and her dogs, Smitty, and Sailor. Friends may call Tuesday March 21 from 1 to 3 pm and 5 to 7 pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St. Dansville, Private Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, All are invited to a public luncheon to celebrate Betsy’s life on Wednesday March 22, 11:00am at the VFW 145 Main St. Dansville.
