Obituary of Robert Lawerence Gaiss

Dansville- Robert Lawrence Gaiss age 89, passed away early Friday morning, April 22, 2016 at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation following a short illness. He was born in Dansville, NY, on June 10, 1926, a son of Lawrence and Irene (Hoffman) Gaiss. He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth “Jean” Gaiss in 2013. Bob spent his childhood in Wayland with his Grandparents George & Christina Hoffman, his Uncle Herman Hoffman & Aunt Victoria Hoffman Booth. During the 40s Bob went to live with his Uncle Ted Hoffman and became a farmer. Bob loved farming and him & Jean lived in Ossian until 1962 when they moved to the village. Bob worked at the Farm Supply & Foster Wheeler until 1965 when he and his Uncle Herm bought Fagan's and he became a bar owner. He owned & operated Herm's 3H Club until is retirement in 1995. He loved working in the yard, his animals & gardening. He loved spending time with his family. Robert is survived by his daughter, Norma (Bill) Forsythe, granddaughter, Robin (Michael) Kapelke, brother in law Bruce Glover, sister in law Audrey Glover, several cousins, nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held Sunday April 24th at 1:00pm Daniel E. Goho Post #87 American Legion 34 Elizabeth St. Dansville NY 14437. Robert will be laid to rest alongside his wife Jean in Greenmount Cemetery Dansville. Robert’s Family politely requests no flowers, instead memorials may be made to the Livingston County Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation Resident Activity Fund.
