Gaylord was one of those individuals who could be considered a "character". His sense of humor, willingness to always lend a hand, and his zest for life set him apart. I also recall the beautiful, heartfelt "memos" that he occasionally sent out to DCS staff members about his philosophies on life. I'll remember Gaylord with fondness and with gratitude that he touched my life. My sincere sympathy to the Luce family.

My heart goes out to the Luce family at this difficult time. Gaylord was more than just a friend to me- he was like family. His strength and sensitivity along with honesty and loyalty allowed us to be just that close. I was the fortunate one who got to know and love him as a friend for over 16 years. If you knew him- you know what I mean- his kindness reached so far he would have done anything for you. Heaven has an amazing new angel. Our loss is great and pain is deep. You will sincerely be missed, Gaylord. Godspeed.

So very sorry for your loss. I remember Gaylord always being at our house (Coombs family) on River Street in Canaseraga when he was growing up. The kids loved him at Dansville school. He will be missed. May wonderful memories help to heal the heart!

My wife, Carolyn, and I, Gaylord's first cousin, are sad to hear this news of Gaylord's death. As I am 10 years older than he, and I left New York for California over 50 years ago, my connection with Gaylord was remote. Nonetheless,as kids, he and his sisters, and my sister, Anita, and I, were very close. Our mothers were sisters who were drawn tightly together by the untimely and nearly simultaneous deaths of their mother and older sister, as well as the death of Gaylord's father when Gaylord was only one year old. He grew up much loved with a pleasant nature. I am sure he will be missed by countless students, teachers and friends in addition to his wife, Jennifer, his boys and especially Karen, his oldest sister. He was a good guy.

STRENGTH: if it could be defined in "the dictionary of our hearts"....it would have one word after it - Gaylord Luce.
A man as tough as nails, and as sensitive as butterfly wings. A man who put HIS ALL in everything he did, said, and felt. A man who touched many lives along his journey-family, friends, children and strangers, as well as, allowing them to touch his. A man true to his word- no matter what had to be said. If you were his friend - you knew it, and if you weren't, well, you knew that too. He was a man who WALKED the WALK without fear. God Bless all of us because we're going to need it. GOD throws the best pitches, and it's up to us to find the strength to hit 'em out of the park. God Bless. We're going to miss him.

Thoughts & prayers go out to your family. I first met Gaylord at a grad bash at the high school in 1994, and my husband & I worked with him to monitor the doors. He was such likeable guy! He and his smile will surely be missed. God's blessings on your family at this difficult time!

Gaylord and I were very good friends growing up. I have a lot of great memories of us hunting, going on a fishing trip to Black lake and playing sports together in high school. After basketball games many times we would end up at the Hilcrest for pizza with Kathy. His laughter and sense of humor I will always remember.
The family has my deepest sympathy but know there are many good memories you will be able to look back on with Gaylord as I had growing up. Rest in peace my friend!!

I graduated with Gaylord and I don't believe I had seen him since. When I see he had still lived in the area I feel bad that our paths had not crossed at some point to exchange a few pleasantries. I recall Gaylord as a nice quiet polite man and I am sure he grew into a nice adult as well. My condolences to his family and to his friends.

I am so sorry your loss. Had not seen Gaylord in probably 35 years but I sure remember him. About 3rd or 4th grade there was a tv commercial for a toy dog named Gaylord: "Gaylord, he looks kind of crazy, moves kind of lazy. I'm afraid Gaylord had that sung to him way too often.
