Obituary of Arlene C. Brokaw

Dansville-Ossian- (Cleta) Arlene Carney Brokaw age 99, passed away late Wednesday afternoon March 12, 2014, at the Vincent House in Wayland, where she had been a resident since September. She was born in the Town of Nunda on January 9, 1915, a daughter of the late Blain and Minnie Gibson Carney. On August 20, 1935, she was married to Marion L. “Dutch” Brokaw, who predeceased her in 1963. She was also predeceased by two sons, baby Harold Brokaw , Marion L. “Jr” Brokaw, grandchildren, Melanie Ann LeVasseur, Lynne (Jopson) LeVasseur, James Brokaw Jr., and Stacia Vogt, son in-laws Norman J. LeVasseur, Carmen D’ Angiolillo and Jack Schilbe, siblings, Dorothy Wampole, and Maynard Carney. Arlene was the oldest member of the Dansville Presbyterian Church, a former member of the Opportunity Circle at the King’s Daughter’s and Son’s Home, the Sixty Plus or Minus Club at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Today’s Widow. Arlene also enjoyed playing Bingo and Crocheting with her friends at Faulkner Apartments in Dansville where she resided for quite a few years. She is survived by her children, Helen and Chet Knapp, Josephine Schilbe, Art and Marie Brokaw, Jean D’Angiolello, Jim and Kathy Brokaw, Donna (Maylon Harvey) Brokaw, Janice and Bill Vogt, a daughter in-law Claudia Brokaw, grandchildren, Norman, David (Rae Dene), William, LeVasseur, John Schilbe, Art (Barb), David (Joanne), Jeff (Danielle), and Ryan Brokaw, Michael (Debbie) Clemens, Sandra (Willie) Amedick, Paul (Greta), Lance (Beth), and Nathan Brokaw, Christine (Zachary) Groet, Robin (Kevin) Nagle, Pamela (Chuck) Salvaggio, Lisa (Tim) Wearkley, Jason Vogt, Deb (Paul) Driesbach, Cindy (David) Baird, thirty great-grandchildren and twelve great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville, a funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:00 am at the Dansville Presbyterian Church.
