Obituary of John Dennis Dempsey

Dansville- John. D. Dempsey age 68, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends Sunday morning October 30, 2011, at the Vincent House in Wayland. He was born in Dansville, on April 9, 1943, a son of the late John "Mal" and Rosemary (Goodwin) Dempsey. He was also predeceased by a sister Sharon Miller. John was US Air Force Vietnam veteran serving from 1964 to 1968 and member of the Daniel Goho Post # 87 of the American Legion. During his working career, his favorite job was his last job, working with his friends driving dump truck for the Town of Ossian Highway Department. John and his family spent last weekend in Washington, DC as a part of "Honor Flight" visiting the WWII monument and the National Memorial Mall. John enjoyed every visit over this past week, spending time laughing and sharing stories from years past. His past times included watching TV, any football or baseball game and recently he enjoyed watching the Food Network. John and several friends enjoyed the races and spent time together at a race a few years back. John is survived by his two loving daughters; Kelly (Timothy) Shepard and Kerry (Todd) Macko both of Farmington; two sisters, Kathy (Robert) Dickson and Maura (David) Shera; six grandchildren, Bryanna, Hali, Megan, Dell, Teagan and Tanner; nieces and nephews, Sean (Kathleen) Nicholson, Patrick (Michelle) Nicholson, Christopher (Marion) Dickson, Michelle (Aaron) Stopka, William (Stephanie) Shera and Jessica Shera. He is also survived by many cousins and friends and especially his Sunrise family. Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc. 271 Main St., Dansville. A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church in Dansville. Interment with full military honors will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dansville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John's memory to; Vincent House, PO Box 566, Wayland, NY 14572, or to Honor Flight Network, 1903 Waterbrook Lane, Columbus, OH 43209, in care of James A.
