West Sparta-Doris Jean Johnson age 77, passed away unexpectedly Friday evening October 14, 2011, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She was born in West Sparta, on October 22, 1933, a daughter of the late LeGrand and Lavina (Pike) Witherell. She was also predeceased by her husband Robert L. Johnson, and siblings, Thelma Polmanteer, Luella Ciotti, Robert and Donald Witherell, a brother in-law Rodney Norton. Doris had worked as a cleaner at the Livingston County Campus in Mt. Morris for twenty-five years retiring in 1993. She was a former member of the Woman of The Moose of Dansville. She was a member of the CSEA and the Livingston County Retires Association and a social member of the West Sparta Volunteer Fire Department. In her free time she enjoyed working around the house and spending time with her companion Bart Johnson. She is survived by her children, Stephen (Karen) Shaver of NC, Kathleen (Gary) Mehlenbacher of Nunda, Wendy (Terry) Fitzpatrick of N. Hornell and Darlene (Keith) Pitt of Webster. Her loving companion Francis "Bart" Johnson; three sisters, Barbara (Keith) Wilcox of Dansville, Marjorie (Ray) Nowatzki of Wayland and Gloria Norton of West Sparta. Seven grandchildren, Heather Machanoff, Brian and Chad Mehlenbacher, Holly and Alexander Fitzpatrick, Kyle and Kelsey Pitt, a great grandson Hayden Machanoff and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville. Services will be held Tuesday at 1:00pm at the West Sparta United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, West Sparta. Online remembrances may be left at HindleFuneralHome.com.
