Dansville- Mary Baker Bondi passed away early Sunday morning, August 21, 2011 at the Conesus Lake Nursing Home in Livonia, after a long illness. She was born in Hartland, NY, May 9, 1937. She was predeceased by her parents, Marguerite Helen and Milford H. Strong, a sister, Annette Schnittker, and her husband, John L. Baker of Hornell. In 1990 she was married to Richard W. Bondi, who survives. She was employed for over thirty years as a legal secretary for Shults and Shults Attorneys in Hornell. She had been co-chairman of the Steuben County Democratic Party, as well as a founder and co-chair of the Democratic Women's Club. Mary was very fond of sports, especially the Buffalo Bills. She coached the Steuben Trust Biddy Basketball team to a 48-2 record in two years and coached the Able Cable Cinderella Softball team to the Cinderella World Series. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church at St. Anne's in Hornell. In addition to her husband, Richard, she is survived by her children, Katherine Bennett Roll (Dennis Roll) of Geneva, Joseph L. Baker (Becky) of Canisteo, Michael J. Baker (Tracy), of Rochester, and Daniel J. Baker (Shannon) of Concord, N.C., stepchildren Peter Bondi of Bradenton, FL, Ann Fournier (Darcy) of Cheyenne WY, James Bondi (Kerrie) of Dansville, Richard Bondi (Patricia) of Dansville, and Marcel Kelly (Michael) of Allegany, her stepmother Katherine Pierce of Appleton, sisters Norma Wright (Roger) of Appleton, Linda Strong of Newfane, brothers James Strong of Appleton, Jason Strong, Jared Strong, and John Strong of Appleton, brothers-in-law Norman Schnittker of Appleton, A. Michael Baker of Wellsville, and sisters-in- law, Patricia Moore of Rock Hill, S.C., and Mary Margaret Baker of Pendleton, in addition to 18 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Tuesday, August 23, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St. Dansville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Anne's Church on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be private at St. Mary's Cemetery in Fremont.
