So very sorry for your loss - something my family can recently understand has no words.
When i think of your dad, and all the times through St. Mary's, GVRC, and watching him play softball..one thing comes to mind. His big smile and his big laugh. He was such a big, wonderful presence to be around, and he certainly raised an amazing family as all of you are and always have been simply wonderful people. God bless you all.

I am good friends with his son Dan. Although I only got together with "Mr Dix" a handful of times, I knew he was a great great man. He always welcomed us with open arms when we visited and would always make us laugh. If his sons are half the man their dad was, then they will be amazing men. Rest in peace Mr Dix - you will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Dixon family.

Bill was a gift of life to all that encountered him; and, a stranger was only a friend that he had not met. He was a true Irishman. As they say Bill had the ability to tell you to go to Hell in such a way that you actually looked forward to the trip.
May his soul rest in peace with the Lord and the angels. God Bless him and his family.

My memories of Bill Dixon started in 1975 when he coached my son, Brian’s, Little League team (Pros) and when he was a fireball pitcher for the Union Hose softball team. I came to know Bill better as his children made their way through the Dansville Schools. He and Sharon could always be counted on to be there at Open House and the many other school functions caring parents never missed. Thanks Bill! Your legacy as a father and a solid citizen lives in the hearts of those kids who have grown up into fine men and women and in a town that will sorely miss your presence.

Some of the fondest childhood memories I have was spending Saturday afternoons with our fathers at the Union Hose, many of my friends were made there. The most exiting times were traveling on the old fire truck over to the Rotory Field to watch the fathers DOMINATE on the softball field. The Union Hose Team of the 70's were unbeatable, they were a bunch of all-stars and the star player, my first sports hero, was the pitcher Bill Dixon. I can still see his style to this day, standing on the mound, white pants, green jersey, ball in glove, rear it back and let it go! I remember trying to copy his style in the back yard throwing underhand pitches at the garage wall.
I too, like Bart was recruited by Bill to play on the Pros Little League team, this team was stacked with talent, obviosly because Bill had an eye for it. I will always remember the one day after practice Bill pulled me aside and with a tear in his eye told me it was not my time yet to join the team and he told me he would see me on his team the next year. He made it clear his decision hurt him too and made it easier for a 9 year old to bear. Well I ended up on a new team the next year which eventually we ended up winning the penant, I always joked with Bill at least once a year to this day that that was the biggest mistake he ever made. He treated me like one his sons and didnt pull any punches, if he thought you needed a talking to you got it. One morning Bill showed up at our the door in the morning, my mother answered and he asked her to get me out of bed, Steve was outside waiting in the backseat, he told her apparently the boys must have hit some ice on the way home from "church" last night and they allegedly took out Dave and Kathy Werth's flower beds two doors down. As I came down he guided me to the backseat and drove us to Dave's "office" to get our landscaping work papers. During this short trip he kept looking in the rear veiw mirror to see what type of expressions were on our faces while he let his opinion be known. These were the types of situations Steve and I delt Bill regularly, and these were always discussed everytime we saw each other over the years. I will truly miss him. He, not Eddie Feinger was the "King and His Court"

Bill was truly a great man. You can't say that about many. He was special. A man's man and a gentleman. An athlete, an outdoorsman, a worker and a player. A public servant and man of the community. He was funny with a quick wit and he was a tough S.O.B.! He always had a smile and a good word to say. He was a leader. A friend. An amazing father and proud grandfather. A loving husband. What a life! What a man!
He was my very first coach. Dansville Little League Baseball. The Pros! What a team we had! What a coach we had, the greatest coach ever; Bill Dixon. I loved him. I learned more from him than just how to catch, throw and hit. I learned about life. I swear I believed he invented the phrase, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going!". I hung on his every word as a kid. He was the first to ever call me "Bart". It stuck. He believed in me and made me a better player, athlete and person. He helped instill confidence in my abilities that I never knew I had. This team helped define my youth growing up in Dansville and he was the leader, the coach. Amazing memories. Still lifelong friendships with my teammates from those years.
As an educator and coach my entire adult life, I can honestly say that Bill Dixon's teaching style, coaching ability and leadership skills, had a huge influence on my personal and professional development. I'm forever indebted to him for that.
He's a man to model your life after. Work hard. Play hard. Be honest. Have fun and love your family. Be true to yourself, your friends and if you're hurting, rub dirt in it and take a lap!
I celebrate your life Bill Dixon. One of the best ever. Thank you for your gifts. I wish I could have said all you meant to me and thank-you for your influence on my life, when you were still with us. I'm sorry about that. You'll be missed and never forgotton.
To Steve, Stacy, Dan and Sharon... my thoughts are with you all and your families. I love you all and the Dixon family has always had a special place in my life and heart.
Be strong.
Love, Bart
