James A. "Doc" Conway Obituary

Doc was the editor of the Genesee Country Express for many years retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Community at St. Mary's Church in Dansville. Doc was a fifty-seven year member of the Dansville Lions Club where he served as President in 1979-1980, was awarded Career Lion in 1979, Lion of the Year in 2006, he was recognized by the club as a Melvin Jones Fellow in 1993, awarded Life Membership of Lions Club International by the Dansville Club in 2003 for his loyal fifty years of service to Lions. He was also the producer of the Lions Club annual show from 1981 to 2010. He was a past member of the Protective's Company of the Dansville Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Daniel Goho Post # 87 of the American Legion. In his free time he enjoyed reading the newspaper, keeping abreast on current events, playing golf and enjoying family and friends. In January of this year he was inducted into the Dansville All Sports Booster Club "Wall of Fame" for his dedicated coverage of the Dansville High School Sports program during his tenure at the Express.


Surviving in addition to his wife of fifty-six years Claudette are his children, Terrence (Angie) Conway, Maureen (Kevin) Kraus, Sarah (Randy) Forbes, Patrick (Lisa) Conway and Brendan (Cyndi) Conway. A sister Mary Gail Welch, three sister's in-law of Doris Bacon, Doris Conway and Barbara LaShomb. Seventeen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.


Friends may call Thursday 3:00 to 8:00 pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00am at St. Mary's Church in Dansville. Interment with full military honors will be in Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville.
