Obituary of Russell Knapp

Ossian - Russell I. "Hock" Knapp age 86, passed away at home early Monday evening October 25, 2010, after an extended illness. He was born in Canaseraga on April 9, 1924, a son of the late Dwight and Linda (Elder) Knapp. On August 12, 1950, he was married to Eva (Crosby) Knapp, who predeceased him on October 18, 1987. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Duane and Pearl Knapp, Beatrice Sterner, Millie Stern and Marjorie Baker. Russ owned and operated Knapp Farm's in Ossian until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the Ossian Town Board for fifteen years, the Cornell Cooperative Extension, Farm Bureau, Ossian Grange and the Dansville Fish and Game Club. He was active with the Canaseraga Lions Club for over 40 years, where he had served as President and was a Past Deputy District Governor. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting in Texas, Montana, Quebec, and the Dakota's. He is survived by two sons; Dwight (Deanne) Knapp of Ossian, Frederick (Lisa) Knapp of FL, two daughters; Donna (James) Shayder of Webster and Karen (Lee) Schnell of TX, five grandchildren, Darren Knapp, Dianne Knapp, Stacey Shayder, Laura Shayder and Tina Coombs, and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Inc. Dansville, where services will be held Friday at 10:00am, with the Rev. David Hotchkiss officiating. Interment will be in Ossian Center Cemetery, Ossian. Online remembrances may be left at HindleFuneralHome.com.
