Obituary of Fay H. Ace

He was born in Auburn, PA, on February 21, 1924, a son of the late Fred and Maude (Mericle) Ace. On April 13, 1950, he was married to Dorcas (Foust) Ace, who predeceased him just three months ago. He was also predeceased by a granddaughter, Stacia Davies Vogt, and siblings, Vernon, Ray, Leigh and Hilda. Fay was a machinist by trade and had worked for Piper & Paine Machine Shop in Nunda for nine years and spent the rest of his career at General Railway Signal in Rochester where he retired from in 1986. Fay was a WW II US Army veteran serving with the Ninth Army that traveled thru Belgium and Holland into Germany where the most intense fighting was during the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Nunda American Legion and the Nunda VFW where he served as Quartermaster and Commander. Fay and Dorcas moved to West Sparta from Nunda after he retired and he became active with the West Sparta Fire Department, where he held offices and was still considered a Lieutenant in the Fire Police and was known to everyone as "Grandpa". He was a member of the Livingston County Volunteer Fireman's Association, the Livingston County Fire Chief's Association, a life member of both the Western New York Volunteer Fireman's Association and the New York State Fireman's Association. He was a charter member of the Nunda Ambulance Corp. and Nunda Fire Department where he was a past Assistant Chief and known as "Pappy". In 1983, he was awarded the "Firefighter of the Year" award in Nunda and in West Sparta he received the award six different years. In 2005, Nunda and West Sparta Fire Departments recognized Fay with his commitment of over fifty years to both departments. The Town of West Sparta in 2000 recognized Fay as "Senior Citizen of the Year" for his activities in the town including serving as a member on the Town Board and his attendance at board meetings. He is survived by three daughters; Nancy (Anthony) Regatuso of Mt. Morris, JoAnne Moudik of TX, Joyce (David) Davies of West Sparta; a son, Roger Leslie of FL; a sister Doris (Jeremiah) Dooley of AZ; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the West Sparta Fire Dept. 4461 Red School House Rd., Dansville Ambulance Fund, PO Box 235, both of Dansville, NY 14437, or the Nunda Fire Dept. PO Box 551 Nunda, NY 14517.
