Obituary of Ralph Arthur Folts

He was born in Dansville on September 3, 1924, a son of the late Edison Leon and Mildred (Campbell) Folts. On September 3, 1960, he was married to Eva (Young) Folts, who predeceased him on February 2, 2003. He was also predeceased by a brother, Gerald Folts, sisters, Lucille Beach and Gretchen Folts. He attended Buffalo State College and majored in art. Ralph was employed at the former Dansville Press, Stone Conveyor in Honeoye, and Foster Wheeler Energy Corp. in Dansville. He worked in the Engineering Department at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville for twenty five years. He was a WWII US Army veteran serving from 1943 to 1946 with the 37th Engineer Battalion, where he was involved in the Allied invasion of German occupied France at Omaha Beach on D-day. He was a life social member of the Union Hose Company of the Dansville Fire Department. He was also a member of the Frank J. Casbolt # 6780 of the VFW, and a member of the Daniel Goho Post # 87 of the American Legion. In his free time he enjoyed woodworking, metal fabrication, puttering and taking his dog for a ride in the car. Ralph had a quick wit and enjoyed a good story every now and then. He is survived by his daughter, Lora Downey of Loon Lake; three grandsons: Michael (Sandra) Harter of Virginia, Todd (Teresa) Harter of Dansville, and Lee (Jennifer) Downey of Virginia; three great-grandchildren: Jason (Lisa), Shawn (Jeni) and Heather Harter Alexis and Connor Downey, a great-great-grandson Neal Harter, a brother Donald H. Folts of N. Cohocton, a sister Jeanne Bendzus of Sparta, and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, 271 Main St., Dansville, where services will be held Wednesday at 10:00am. Interment with full military honors will be in Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville.
