Obituary of Russell James Kenney

He was born in the Town of Ossian on March 5, 1922, a son of the late Clyde and Catherine (McLane) Kenney. On September 26, 1942, he was married to Eileen (Howe) Kenney who predeceased him on June 16, 2008. He was also predeceased by a son Brian Kenney, a grandson Todd Kenney, and a brother Maynard Kenney. Russ was a US Army WWII and Korean War Veteran serving from 1942 to 1951. He was a member of the Daniel Goho Post # 87 of the American Legion and the Frank Casbolt # 6780 of the VFW. He was a member of the Perkinsville Rod and Gun Club, the Dansville Area Historical Society. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and writing poetry. Russ and his late wife Eileen owned and operated a Nationwide Insurance Agency at their home on Maple St. in Dansville for over twenty-five years. He also had sold Prudential Insurance for several years. In his earlier years he was a draftsman for the former Foster Wheeler Energy Corp. of Dansville. He is survived by two sons, Bruce (Gene) Kenney of Dansville, Barry (Monique Johnson) Kenney of Avoca, twin daughters, Kim (Ellen Bonjorno) Kenney of Dansville and Kay (Alan) Fisher of Wayland. A sister Doris Campbell also of Dansville. He is also survived by his loving companion, Ruth Perry of Dansville, 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville. Services will be held Friday at 10:00am in the West Sparta United Methodist Church. Interment with full military honors will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, West Sparta. Online remembrances may be left at HindleFuneralHome.com. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Teresa House, 21 Highland Rd., Geneseo, NY 14454, or Literacy Volunteers of America, Livingston County, 27 Lackawanna Ave. Mt. Morris, NY 14510.
