Obituary of Edward John Acomb

Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ed was a US Army veteran serving as a tank mechanic during the Korean War. He was an Honorary Life Member of the Daniel Goho Post # 87 of the American Legion, where he was a member of the firing squad playing "Taps" on his bugle at military funerals, Memorial Day celebrations or other veteran functions for over 50 years. Ed also played the bugle with the original White Sabers Drum and Bugle Corps. He was a communicant of the Holy Family Catholic Community at St. Mary's Church in Dansville, where he was also active with the Divine Mercy and the Holy Mowers. He was a longtime active member of the Dansville Lions Club, where he performed in many Minstrel Shows, served as President and was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow in 2001. He was a member of the Protective's Company of the Dansville Volunteer Fire Dept. and a volunteer at Vincent House in Wayland and a driver for dialysis patients going to Hornell for several years. Ed was the transportation supervisor at Dansville School Central for many years retiring in 1990 after 30 years of service. He drove truck for Shay's Service in Dansville, and was also a driver for Expressway Auto Auction and Matthews Buses in Dansville. Ed could tell a good story, but you better have lots of time so he could finish it. If you ever had the honor of being on the receiving end of one of Eddie's practical jokes he was second to none. Surviving in addition to his wife of 53 years, Dianne, are three sons, Douglas (Carol) Acomb of Livonia, David (Tina) Acomb of OH, Thomas (Kelli) Acomb of FL, two daughters, Barbara (Chris) Hollands of Webster and Mary Jo Acomb of Dansville. Siblings, James Acomb, his twin sister Evelyn (Bob) Roberts, Carolyn Sick all of Dansville and Jean (Dr. John) VanLandingham of IL. A sister in-law Alice Acomb of Dansville, nine grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call from SATURDAY from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and 3:00 to 7:00 pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St. Dansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on MONDAY at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church in Dansville. Interment with Full Military Honors will be in Holy Cross Cemetery Dansville.
