Dansville- Raymond L. "Ray" Farmer 76, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday afternoon March 11, 2010, in the Emergency Room at Noyes Memorial Hospital following an accidental fall at home.
He was born in Marshalltown, IA on June 12, 1933, a son of the late Lloyd and Eula (Fulton) Farmer. He was also predeceased by a son William Farmer, and brothers Robert, James and Donald Farmer. On July 8, 1957, he was married to Virginia L. (Glover) Farmer, who survives.
Ray was a long haul truck driver for many years, driving and retiring from KJ Transportation in Victor. He also had driven school bus for the Dansville Central School District for several years and Johnson Burnwell Gas of Dansville and Derrenbacher Trucking of Ossian.
He was a US Marine Corps' veteran serving from 1951 to 1960. He was a former member of the Daniel Goho Post # 87 of the American Legion, the Loyal Order of the Moose, the Dansville and Wayland Fish & Game Clubs. In his free time he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, bird watching, hunting and especially fishing.
Surviving in addition to his wife of fifty two years Virginia, are his children; David Staats of Ilion, William Staats of Rochester, Bonna (Brian) Kelley of OR, Phillip (Kathy) Farmer Sr. IA, Paula (Robert) Bailey MD, Rae-Dene (David) LeVasseur, Raymond Farmer Jr., both of Dansville and Gretchen (Christopher) Townsend of Canaseraga, three sisters; Barbara Mueller of IA, Geri Williams of GA, and Betty Shorter of MA, fifteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Tuesday from 3-5 pm at the Springwater Church of the Nazarene, NYS Route 15 in Springwater, where services will be held at 5:00 pm with the Pastor Dennis Swart officiating. Arrangements are by the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville. Online remembrances may be left at HindleFuneralHome.com.
