Obituary of Lena I. Sanford

Dalton/Nunda - Lena Irene Sanford age 93, passed away early Sunday evening February 14, 2010 at the St. Ann's PCC in Rochester. She was born in Nunda, on November 14, 1916, a daughter of the late George and Ethel (Nichols) Walsworth. She was also predeceased by a son in-law Larry Stephens, grandchildren, Bruce Bernard, Becky Lee Sanford and Mathew Stephens, siblings, Fern Reed, Maude Parker, Lamoine Parker, Dora Kemp and Walter "Shorty" Walsworth. In December of 1936, she was married to Leon Sanford, who predeceased her on September 13, 2002 after 65 years of marriage.. Lena and Leon owned and operated L&L Groceries in Dalton and Portageville for many years retiring in 1978. She also enjoyed in her free time cooking and making her house a home. She is survived by her children, Jean (James) Guy of Dansville, Leon "Willie" Sanford of Nunda, and Sharon (Frank) Gilbert of Hornell, a daughter in-law Rebecca Sanford of Dalton. Siblings George Walsworth of Nunda, Lois Morsher of NV, Viva Morsch of Wayland. Grandchildren, Michael (Debbie) Bogardus, Kevin (Rhonda Carter) Bogardus her caregiver, Karen (Glenn) Essler, Marilyn (Calvin) Moffat, Jennifer Bernard, Barbara (Keith) Gelser, William (Marguerite) Stephens, Kerry (Naomi) Stephens, Yvonne (William) Clarke, Timothy (Chasity) Stephens, Jeremy (Bonnie McDermott) Stephens and Rose Stephens, twenty three -great grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. A special niece Joann Sanford and many other nieces and nephews. At Lena's request there will be no prior calling hours. A memorial service will be held in the spring.
