Obituary of Eizenija "Mika" Shera

Mika is survived by her loving husband, Dr. J. Courtenay Shera of Dansville, NY., sons; J. Courtenay Shera and his wife Candice of Pompton Lakes, N.J., Caleb A. Shera and his wife Wendy of Richmond, Va.; daughter, Eugenia H. Shera of Fredericksburg, Va. and siblings; Aleksander Bergman and his wife Linda of Ft. Defiance, Va.; Elena Bergman Siddall of Port Haywood, Va.; and J.Georg Bergman of Concord, Ca.; nieces, nephews and friends who will remember her remarkable personality and energy.Mika was born in Riga, Latvia in 1939, a daughter of the late Andrejs Bergman and the late Eugenia Pechatkin Bergman.She survived the war, refugee camps, then with her family came to the United States in 1949 and settled in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia.She graduated from Wilson Memorial High School in Fishersville, Va. in 1956 and Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia in 1960. In 1963 she received Master of Library of Science degree from Columbia University. She was the Associate Editor of Crowell-Collier's Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences.Her wit, her intelligence, and hearty appreciation of life and family, though dampened by an accident in 1979, brought joy to family and friends alike. Calling hours are from 2-5 PM on Sunday, December 13 at the Hindle Funeral Home Inc. 271 Main St. in Dansville, NY, where services will be held on Monday, December 14 at 1:30pm, with the Rev. David Hotchkiss officiating. Interment will be in Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY.
