She was born in Providence, NY on August 17, 1918, a daughter of the late James and Bertha (Mason) Whitney. On June 8, 1941, she was married to Gerald H. Rose, who predeceased her on October 8, 1989. She was also predeceased by a son Stephen Rose, a grandson Frank Nitzman and eleven brothers and sisters. She was a machine operator at VanRaults in Saratoga, Serphia Glove Co. in Northville, and Blum Shoe Factory in Dansville. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America. She attended the Dansville Presbyterian Church. Doris loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially the time she spent with her grandsons, Chad (Keri) VanAuken, Andrew (Carie) VanAuken and Christopher (Kerry) VanAuken. Doris is survived by a son, Gerald (Beverly) Rose of Swanton, VT; two daughters, Jeanne (Louie Sanchez) Krauss of Newark, DE, and Sheila (Gary) VanAuken of Ossian. Fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 9pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville. Services will be held Thursday at 11:00am in the Dansville Presbyterian Church with the Pastor Cathy Foerster officiating. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville.
