Obituary of Adam Joseph Backus

Please share a memory of Adam to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
He was born to Michael and Marsha (Reagle) Backus at Langley AFB in Hampton, VA. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents Richard Backus and Naomi Sapp. maternal grandparents Robert and Adielia Reagle and an Aunt Lola Reagle Ames.He graduated from Dansville Central School in 2002 and enlisted in the US Air Force. His six year military career took him to Davis Monthan AFB in Tucson, AZ, with follow on to Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, AK, where he volunteered for a five month assignment to Iraq so that others could come home to see their families. Adam made friends very easily. He had an amazing personality and smile that could light up a room. He loved spending time with friends and family, whether at a sporting event, playing cards, a family picnic or holiday gathering, he enjoyed socializing. He was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the Buffalo Bills and the Boston Red Sox. In Alaska he met at a local sports bar called the Peanut Farm with the "Bills Backers" to watch the weekly football games. Whenever possible he would attend the home games in Buffalo with family and friends. He was equally loyal to the Boston Red Sox. In June he attended a game in Boston where he also was able to see batting practice as well. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Especially big game hunting in Alaska, as well as many fishing charters he took out of the Homer spit.Adam was a member of the Conesus Lake Riders Club In June he completed a 100 mile run to support Camp Good Days and Special Times, a charity that was very near and dear to his heart knowing first hand exactly what those children are going through. Even though he was fighting his own battle, completing this run was very important to him and was a very important goal he had set for himself. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met, a quality rarely seen in someone his age. He will forever leave a mark on many people because of the strength, courage and determination he showed in dealing not only with life, but with the cancer that overtook his body, but never his spirit. He leaves behind his loving parents, Michael and Marsha Backus of Dansville, paternal grandmother Mary Backus, his brother and sister in-law Ryan and Christina (Canne) Backus, two nephews who loved him immensely Hunter and Patrik Backus, uncles Lynn (Sue) Reagle, Scott, Jeff Backus, Doug (Donna) Backus Brad (Megan) Backus, Aunts Mary (Brian) Mastin, Julie (Jamie) Hamilton, Gail (Bill) Parmentier, cousins, Lon Ames, Landrea Wroten, Jeremy (Amanda) Reagle, Melissa (Kyle) Boone, Julie and Stacie Mastin, Rebecca, David, Jonathon, Joseph and Leah Backus, Kelly and Brooke Hamilton, Hannah and Braeden Backus, Rachel and Emily Parmentier, along with his Alaska family Ted, Marilyn and Justin Backus and many dear and devoted friends. In lieu of flowers Adam's request was to make memorial contributions to Camp Good Days and Special Times, PO Box 665, Mendon, NY 14506 to help a child in need.
