Boy, reading these things is making it ever so real,..and you know how I haven't been dealing with the reality of you being gone. Again, I thank you for your generous heart and spirit in taking on two wild kids (one of whom wasn't too excited at the thought of having a step-parent). But you proved me wrong. You were the best step-father any girl could have. You were always there with advice, a listening ear and support. I'll be forever grateful. You taught me that a step-parent can be a loving presence in a child's life. Rest in peace...and thank you for watching over us from above.

Hi Dad,
Thanks for the bedtime stories that had to be all about me. Thanks for letting me win all the board games and for taking me for walks and bike rides.
I also want to thank you for being there for me when Mom died. You trusted me with your life for the last few months and I hope I did a good job.
Every day when I would go to the hospital I would give you a list of all the naughty things your dog had done- We called it the "List of Grievances." I promised I would still give them to you so here they are:
She still wakes me up too early.
She has wet dirty paws all over my furniture.
She got into an aguement with a lab, a golden retreiver, and a doberman. She better hope we can both run fast if they ever get loose.
The first thing I found when I got back to my house that first morning was a treat buried in my luggage.
She buried a bone in my laundry.
She thinks she is the boss of me.
She ripped the stuffing out of her brand new toy.
She pounced on me this morning and stared me down because she wanted a walk.
She begs for too many treats.
She is pawing me right this second because she wants her dinner, and then to be played with, and then a tummy rub.
So I think I am going to go dedicate myself to your dog for the rest of the night. I know, I know...just like you told me in the hospital, she is my dog now.
Thanks for giving her to me, I promised I would take care of her always and I will.
Love you,
Ruthie
