Obituary of Thomas R. Grant

Tom was born in Lockport, NY on September 1, 1940 to the late Rollin and Mildred (Sackel) Grant. On February 4, 1967, he married Patricia (Clark) Grant, who survives. Tom is also survived by his children, Kirsten (Jason) Oliver and Susan Grant (David Wright), his granddaughter, Lilijana Oliver, his expected granddaughter, and his siblings, Rollin Peter (Anne) Grant and Kay (Michael) McKernan. Tom was a caring family man and friend. He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, his generous spirit, and his appreciation for life's adventures. Tom loved to travel. During his college years, he traveled overseas to Australia and China before coming home to finish his degree in Finance. More recently, he enjoyed traveling across the country by rail; San Diego, CA and Mexico were among his favorite destinations. Tom had a wide variety of interests, including photography, collecting cars (especially classic Studebakers), and caring for stray animals. He was also an avid reader and loved listening to Latino, classical, and pop music. Tom was a valued member of the Sparta Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years and held many offices throughout his years of service.Tom worked his full career as a financial analyst for Rochester Gas and Electric until he retired in 1992. Even after his retirement, he worked at RGE as a consultant. He completed his most recent work assignment at the Scottsville Road location last fall. He continued to stay connected with friends and co-workers through weekly lunch dates at various restaurants throughout Rochester.Tom passed away suddenly on March 14th and will be dearly missed by family and friends. He will be honored with a fireman's prayer service at 6:30 pm, March 18th prior to evening calling hours and his memorial service will take place at 11am on March 19th at the Hindle Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sparta Volunteer Fire Department, 8479 Reeds Corners Road, Dansville, NY 14437.
