Obituary of John Christian Maichle

John was a welder at a defense plant in Buffalo at the start of World War II, but requested a release to serve in the Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater from October 1942 to October of 1945. He was a crew leader during the building of the Mt. Morris Dam from 1948-1952, and in recognition, a brick inscribed with his name was laid in the foundation of the Visitor Center kiosk. He was a manager at Max Pies Carpets in Rochester for many years finally retiring in 1981. John loved the game of golf, and was a voracious reader. He was a charter member of the 6 am Coffee Club at McDonald's of Dansville. He is survived by two daughters, Lynn Maichle of Cambridge, MA and Laurie Maichle of Penfield, NY, siblings F. Richard Maichle, Margery Sauerbier both of Dansville, and M. Sybil Maichle of Mt. Morris along with several nieces and nephews. He was born to Dr. Robert J. Maichle and Martha Christian Maichle in Cohocton, NY on December 10, 1916. He was loved by Mary Kenney Maichle whom he married just after WWII and was devoted to until her death in 1964. He was also predeceased by siblings, James, Charles Maichle and Jean Maichle Bacon.Lynn and Laurie wish to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Heather Heights Assisted Living in Pittsford, NY for their loving care and compassion for our father.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dansville Public Library, 200 Main St., or the Daniel Goho Post # 87 American Legion, "Boots on the Ground" 40 Elizabeth St., both of Dansville, NY 14437.
