Obituary of Mary Carney Hughes

Dansville- Mary Steadman Carney Hughes- age 103, of Quay St., in Dansville passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon December 9, 2008, at home with her family by her bedside. She was born in Brookfield, PA on April 5, 1905, a daughter of the late Judd and Esther (Wood) Steadman. On July 31, 1924, she was married to Glenn Carney who predeceased her in 1934. On April 20, 1946, she was married to Alonzo Hughes who predeceased her in 1984. She was also predeceased by a son Jack Carney, a daughter Marilyn Carney, step-sons Charlie and William Hughes, and siblings, George, Richard and Russell Steadman.Mary attended Genesee High School in Genesee PA. She was employed at the former McFadden "Castle on the Hill" in Dansville and as a book binder at F.A. Owen Publishing Company in Dansville. She was a member of the Dansville Presbyterian Church and a former of the Dansville Grange. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Kramer of Dansville, a sister Emma Drayer of PA. Eight grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.A memorial celebration will be held Friday December 12, from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at 6 Quay St. in Dansville. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville.
