Obituary of DeMerle E. Hoag

Dansville- DeMerle E. Hoag, passed away early Sunday evening October 5, 2008 in his eightieth year, at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville.
He was born in the family on McWhorter Rd. in Dansville on October 19, 1928, a son of the late Waldo and Helen (Smith) Hoag. He was also predeceased by siblings George Hoag and Henrietta Sylor. On October 21, 1949, he was married to Catherine Kay Donovan who survives.
DeMerle was a communicant of the Holy Family Catholic Community at St. Marys Church in Dansville. He was an avid hunter in Alaska, Montana and Canada and was a life member of the Dansville Fish & Game Club. In 1974 he founded the Stones Falls Moto Park: where families could enjoy the sport of moto cross racing and operated it with his family until 1983. He was very instrumental in the building of his childrens homes, after his accident in 1986 he became an accomplished woodworker and cabinet maker, building kitchen cabinets and furniture for family and friends. His sense of humor was very well known, he was always quick with a joke and enjoyed picking on all of his grandchildren.
He was employed at Foster Wheeler Energy Corp in Dansville as a welder for over 40 years, and was a member of the IAM Local # 1665, the twenty five year club, and the Powers Inn Club both affiliated with Foster Wheeler.
Surviving in addition to his devoted wife, Kay are, two daughters, Kathy (Ron) Jamison, and Noreen (Fred) Miner, five sons, Tim (Cindy) Hoag, Bill Hoag, Dave (Kellee) Hoag, Ken (Tammy) Hoag, and Pete (Brenda) Hoag all of Dansville. Four sisters, Pearl Brick of Buffalo, Wilma Yohonn of Rochester, Thelma (David) DePuy of Dansville and Elaine (John) Gilbert of Pine Valley, a sister in law, Dorothe Hoag of Dansville and a brother in law Robert (Michele) Donovan of Mt. Morris, eighteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Tuesday from 7-9pm and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St. Dansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00 am in St. Marys Church in Dansville. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dansville.
