Obituary of Jane Marie Kenney
Please share a memory of Jane to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Geneseo - Jane M. Kenney passed away on January 11, 2025, at the age of 91.
She was predeceased by her parents, Leslie and Hazel Rowe, and her husband, Donald Kenney, as well as special friend, David Barager. Jane is survived by her children, Thomas Cassada (Douglas Howard) and Marie Cassada, as well as her beloved grandchildren Scott (Becky), Brian and Nicole (Chris Macera) Wilson and great granddaughters Lydia and Amelia Wilson.
Jane was born on February 12, 1933, in West Sparta, New York. She grew up in Dansville and graduated from Danville High School in 1951 where she was an active and popular student. During her time in school, she maintained a scrap book of high school activities that serves as a wonderful insight into life in the late 1940s and early 50s. After graduation, Jane entered the work force and was employed for a few years at the former Sampson Card Company before spending over 30 years at Shay's Trucking Company as a bookkeeper and loyal employee. In 1954, she married Oliver Cassada and they spent nearly two years of their early marriage living in France while Oliver was in the Air Force. During that time, they travelled extensively throughout Europe and Jane was always very proud of the time spent abroad. Showing off her photo albums of that time was a great source of pride throughout her life. The couple moved to Groveland Station in the early 1960s and raised their two children there. Jane was active in the Sparta First Presbyterian Church where she was a long-time Elder and member of the Women's Society. During their marriage, Oliver and Jane enjoyed playing Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus at various functions during the holiday season. Upon her divorce in 1989, Jane married Donald Kenney and the two had a wonderful and happy, albeit brief, marriage until Don's death in 1996. When her mother died in 2006, Jane moved to Dansville to live with her father until his death in 2008. She remained in Dansville until 2020 when she moved to Morgan Estates in Geneseo. Her nearly five years there were most enjoyable, and she made many friends from various parts of Livingston County. The staff there was very kind to her and for that the family is most grateful. Jane was an avid sports fan and actively followed the Buffalo Bills and other teams, both professional and collegiate. She also enjoyed playing cards and socializing. A total people person, Jane loved making connections with people wherever she went.
The family will host a reception and celebration of life in Jane's memory on Saturday, January 18th starting at 2 pm at Morgan Estates Assisted Living, located at 4588 Morgan View Road in Geneseo. Parking will be available in the lot directly adjacent to the front entrance of the building.
Burial will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery in West Sparta. Arrangements are being handled by the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc. 271 Main St., Dansville NY 14437. At the end of the day, it can be said that she lived a good life and was ready to go. She will be greatly missed.
Memorials may be made to Noyes Memorial Hospital Foundation, 111 Clara Barton St. Dansville, NY 14437.
