Obituary of Lois Dean Harvey

Canaseraga- Lois Schryver Harvey of Canaseraga passed away at home early Saturday morning September 9, 2023, at the age of 95. She was born January 14, 1928, in Hyde Park, NY to Dean & Mildred (Weiermiller) Schryver. At age 14 she graduated from Dansville Central School and went on to graduate from the Rochester Business Institute. She was employed as a secretary at FA Owens Publishing Company and the Dansville Central School District in Dansville. On July 24, 1948, she married Bailey (Bill) Harvey at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Dansville and celebrated at her family's cottage on Loon Lake. Together they enjoyed 52 years of marriage before Bill's passing in 2001. In 1955 Lois became the district treasurer for the Canaseraga Central School District. She also worked as a cafeteria aide, cashier and secretary for the district. She retired from her position as the Superintendent's secretary in 1993, after 38 years of service. She continued to serve the school as the deputy district clerk and election inspector for many years as well as serving the Town of Burns as a board member for 25 years. Lois enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, walking, being outside, going to and having yard sales, decorating her yard, baking, caring for animals, attending sporting events, dressing up as Garfield and traveling. Lois is predeceased by her parents, her husband, her brother James Schryver and all of her brothers and sisters-in-law. She is survived by her daughter Deanne (Dwight) Knapp of Ossian, NY and her son Dean (Pamela) Harvey of Canaseraga, NY, seven grandchildren; Tina Coombs (Jerimey Maclellan) of Park City, UT, Dianne (Nicholas) Ringelberg of Ossian, NY, Darren (Kearstin) Knapp of Ossian, NY, Kyla (George) McCormick of Canaseraga, NY, Kylee (Brian) Mana of Martinez, GA, Kelcy Harvey of Canisteo, NY and Kelby (Tad) Lawrence of Stanley, NY; 11 great grandchildren; Tyler, Dylan, Grace and Molly Maclellan, Lawson and Landon Ringelberg, Eva Knapp, Ryn and Rena McCormick, Velma Mana and Drew Lawrence; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Lois's family will receive family and friends at the Canaseraga American Legion on Saturday October 7, 2023, from 12 pm to 4 pm. A private burial service will take place at the convenience of the family. Lois asks for no tears, only to remember her with a smile as the train goes by, you see a pet, a beautiful rainbow, a lovely blue bird, a deer and the smile on a child's face. Lois's family would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to her wonderful neighbors and all those who have provided excellent care for her in recent years.
