Dansville- Walter Lawrence Brewer age 87, passed away at the Bath VAMC following an illness on July 1, 2023.

He was born in Guttenberg, NY on January 6, 1936, son of the late Phillip and Alice Kunstle. He was also predeceased by his adoptive parents John (Cecil) Brewer. On March 11, 1961, he was married to Patricia (Tiencken) Brewer who survives.

Walter served 20 years in the United States Marines. He served four tours in Vietnam, where he was awarded a purple heart. He was very proud of being a Marine, he would find fellow marines everywhere he went. He took great pleasure competing in the Golden Age Games, a competition of older service men and women. Walt traveled all over the USA including Alaska and Hawaii, winning a gold medal in Croquet. Walt also participated in Adaptive sports winter clinic, snowmobiling and skiing in Aspen. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, and the Marine Corps League. He loved being part of the Varsity Senior Park and talking to all his neighbors.

In addition to his wife of 62 years Pat, he is survived by their daughter, Patti (Curtis) James, grandchildren, Tara (Kevin) Devine, Casey (Nicholas) Scinta, beloved great-grandchildren, Kayla, Kieran, Logan, Elias, and Kylian.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday July 21st 11:00am at the Avoca Baptist Church 1 Church St. Avoca. Interment with Full Military Honors will be held at 10:00am on Friday July 21st in Bath National Cemetery. Arrangements by the Hindle Funeral Home Inc. 271 Main St., Dansville.
