Obituary of Major Kenneth Edwin Perry

Dansville Major Kenneth Edwin Perry, age 90 passed away peacefully on January 4, 2023. He was born in the Town of Sparta on June 4, 1932, the son of the late Irene (Caton) and Charles Perry. He is predeceased by his first wife Barbara (Dawley) Perry and wife Mary Lou (O'Neil) Perry, son Rick Perry, brother Gerald Perry, sisters Eileen (Perry) Wright and Shirley (Perry) Herington, brothers-in-law Charles Wright, Richard Bennett and Nelson Thorpe and sister-in-law Doris Perry. Ken was a US Army Korean War veteran serving from 1952-1954. He was then transferred to the 98th Division of the U.S. Army Reserve where he retired from as a Major. He was proud of the service he gave to his country. As a peer for our community, Ken was the 1st President of the Dansville Ambulance Company, a Past President and Chief of the Union Hose Fire Company, Fire Department Chaplain, Village Trustee and Facilities Manager and a Communicant of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, a member of the Daniel Goho Post # 87 of The American Legion for 61 years. He played a major role in the special fund raising for the first Union Hose rescue truck and procurement of the first Dansville Volunteer ambulance. Ken worked at Rochester Telephone Company. He retired from Foster Wheeler Corporation after 35 years working as a Shipping Superintendent. Ken was instrumental in starting the softball league between the different volunteer fire companies in town and neighboring towns. He also initiated lights for night softball games. Ken enjoyed family outings, boating, snowmobiling, hunting, Buffalo Bills football, sports, yard work and landscaping, playing cards on Thursday nights, vacationing and going to the casino. Ken is survived by sisters Dorothy Bennett, Barbara Thorpe, Gloria (Richard) Kreiley, brother in-law Roger Herington, sons Michael (Cindy) Perry, Timothy (Diane Palmer) Perry and daughter Lisa (Patrick) Murray, 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 5 nephews, 10 nieces and many great & great-great nephews & nieces. A military graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 11:00am at Holy Cross Cemetery on Stones Falls Road in Dansville. After the service a Celebration of Life at the Union Hose Club Room on Elizabeth Street in Dansville. All family and friends are welcome to attend both the service and Celebration of Life.
