Dansville- Mary E. Fenti, age 100, passed away peacefully late Saturday afternoon, June 25, 2022, at the Wyoming County Community Skilled Nursing Home in Warsaw, where she had been a resident for a short time. Mary was born in Avoca, NY, on March 14, 1922, a daughter to George and Goldie (Brown) Barnes. Mary graduated from Hornell High School in 1940, and married her high school sweetheart, Raymond A. Fenti on September 21, 1940. They had four children (Raymond F. Fenti, Theresa M. Smith, Susan R. Trepanier, and Nancy E. Fenti while living in Canaseraga, before moving to Dansville in 1961. Mary was a member of the Dansville United Methodist Church where she was also active with the Senior Nutrition Program. Mary was a member of the former King's Daughters and Sons, and the Canaseraga Home Bureau. She was a former bookkeeper at NAPA Auto Parts in Dansville for many years and then volunteered for 21 years as "Grandma Mary" in the Foster Grandparent Program working with students and teachers in the Dansville Primary School before retiring in 2015. Mary was a caring mother who loved her family and home. She loved her home away from home as "Grandma Mary" with 21 years of students as well as working with multiple teachers. Known as "Little Woman" to her seven grandchildren, she loved birds, especially cardinals, sunflowers, and butterflies. Favorite pastimes: reading and playing Skip-Bo. Since 2015, Mary lived at St. Ann's Community at The Greens in Le Roy, NY. until May 2022. Fellow residents would often see her reading on the porch or playing Bingo. Mary's favorite thing to do was to play Skip-Bo, a card game she learned many years ago at a Fenti family reunion at Stony Brook State Park. She was the widow of Raymond A. Fenti, who predeceased her on January 4, 1992. Mary was also predeceased by her son, Raymond F. Fenti, a great-grandson, Tyler Bertelson, and siblings Edith Joanis, George Barnes and Marcia De Mont. Mary is survived by her three daughters, Theresa M. Smith, Susan R. Trepanier, Nancy E. Fenti, her daughter-in-law Kaye Fenti, seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. A memorial service will be held at 11 :00 a.m. on Thursday, July 7 at the Dansville United Methodist Church. Online memorials may be left at HindleFuneralHome.com.
