Obituary of Martha Sue Sanderson

Dansville-Martha "Micki" Sue Sanderson age 73, passed away Tuesday afternoon March 29, 2022, at the Conesus Lake Nursing Home after a long illness. Micki was born in Galesburg, IL on December 8, 1948, a daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Rutherford) Rose. In 1970 she was married to David Sanderson who survives. Micki Sanderson lived a life steeped in memories even as she continually created new ones. She could sit and tell stories for hours: stories about Galesburg, Rockford and Hamilton, Illinois, where she spent her childhood; stories about her trips to Oklahoma and Virginia and Florida and Iowa; but mostly stories about her kids--all of whom she loved and supported unconditionally--and her grandkids, with whom she loved to laugh and play. Micki was known by practically everyone in Dansville as "the voice" of Stony Brook Pediatrics. Hers was the smiling face that greeted child after child at the front of that practice for more than thirty years. She loved her work-family almost as much as her own; she may have even made more cookies for them than she did her own family, which is really saying something! She loved sunbathing, watching the birds in the backyard, winning at Scat, going for long walks (on the beach, preferably), having her hair done and chasing hot air balloons. She'll be remembered and missed for all of these things and so much more. As a family, we sing her to rest with the words of the song she'd sing us to rest with: "We love you, a bushel and a peck, A bushel and a peck And a hug around the neck…" In addition to her loving husband Dave, Micki is survived by her children, Andy (Shannon) Sanderson, Michael Sanderson, Molly (Benjamin) Sweeting, her grandchildren, Henry and Josie Sweeting, her sisters, Patricia (Peter) Keyes, Nancy (Bruce Batchelder) Rose, a brother, Steven (Linda) Rose, and several nieces and nephews.
