William R. "Bill" Lemen Obituary

Dansville – William R. "Bill" Lemen age 94, passed away peacefully early Monday evening January 24, 2022, at the Vincent House in Wayland, following a short illness.


He was born in Dansville on April 22, 1927, a son of the late William S. and Florentine Everman Lemen. He was also predeceased by his wife Margaret Pfaff Lemen in 2018, siblings Jane Ann Lemen, Dorothy Rowe, Frederick, Walter, Theodore and John "Jack" Lemen, and a daughter in-law Alice Lemen.


Bill was an aviation cadet in the US Navy serving during WWII. He was a member of the Daniel Goho Post # 87 of the American Legion. A member of the Dansville Fish and Game Club and the Protectives Company of the Dansville Volunteer Fire Company. Bill owned and operated Lemens Shell Station on the corner of Clara Barton and Church St. from 1950 to 1984, when they moved the business to its present location on Franklin St. In his free time, he enjoyed playing pitch, gambling and traveling the world with his late wife Margaret.


He is survived by his daughter Karen Ann Lemen of Roswell GA, three sons Michael Lemen of Greece, James Lemen of Mt. Morris, and Gregory (Lynn Fires) Lemen of Dansville, a granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Lemen, sisters Lois Sanford, Mary Kay Lemen, sister-in-law, Mary Margaret (Peg) Lemen, and many nieces and nephews.


A graveside service will be held Friday morning January 28 at 11:00 am at Holy Cross Cemetery in Dansville followed by interment with full military honors. Arrangements are by the Hindle Funeral Home, 271 Main St., Dansville. Online remembrances may be left at: HindleFuneralHome.com.
