Obituary of Lawrence A. Van Durme

Dansville- Lawrence A. "Larry" Van Durme age 87, passed away late Sunday evening February 19, 2017, at the Hildebrandt Hospice Center in Greece. He was born in Dansville, on October 14, 1929, a son of the late Henry and Clara (Martens) Van Durme. On January 28, 1951, he was married to Eleanora E. Cartwright Van Durme, who predeceased him on May 27, 2006. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Raymond, John, Louis, Nicholas, Philip, and Richard Van Durme, sisters, Mary Hurlburt, Alice Sullivan, Margaret Karns, and Loretta Daniels. Larry was a truck driver for Shay's Services in Dansville for thirty-five years. He was also a well-known bartender at the former Dansville Hotel. He was a driver for Matthews Buses delivering school buses to many area schools. He was a communicant of the Holy Family Catholic Community at St. Mary's Church in Dansville. A member of the Dansville Fish & game Club, the Loyal Order of the Moose # 1130 of Dansville, the Brae Burn Men's Golf Association. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and helping his family with building projects. He is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Donald) Burns, Diane (David) Jones; three sons, Joseph (Elaine) Van Durme, Jessie Van Durme and James Van Durme, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 11:00 am at Greenlawn Cemetery on Stones falls Rd., in Dansville. Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 pm at the Dansville Fish and Game Club Arrangements are by the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St. Dansville.
