ARKPORT - Lois E. Owens, 75, died on July 8, 2023 following a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Mildred Walker. She was predeceased by the love of her life, husband Frank in 2020 and her brother Richard Walker in 2013. Lois is survived by her 2 daughters, Julie (Todd) Korabek of Williamsburg, VA and Jennifer Burley of Arkport, 3 grandsons Ryan and Chase Korabek and Owen Burley, 1 sister Sally (David) Gerling of Rochester, 2 brother-in-laws Howard (Betty) Owens of Columbia, TN and George (Valerie) Owens of Winterest, IA, 1 sister-in-law Corrine Walker of Mulberry, FL. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, many special friends, and a beloved church family. Lois was a reading teacher at Lyons Central School and Arkport Central School. She met her husband Frank through "computer" dating and they were married in July of 1973. In 1978, Lois "retired" from teaching to be a stay at home mom to her first child. She was a graduate of Auburn High School in Auburn, NY and from SUNY Geneseo where she earned her masters degree in reading and elementary education. Lois loved being home with her girls. She was always there for all of their events, taking them for bike rides, out for ice cream, to the park to play and the occasional trip to McDonalds for a happy meal. Lois enjoyed volunteering her time with many different groups. She served the Lord by being part of the Deacons at church for many years. She also spent many hours each year organizing and planning Vacation Bible school. On top of the that, she also headed up crafts for the younger kids at VBS. During the school year, she would assist with the MOPS program and Release Time at church. Outside of serving her church, she was the troop leader for her daughter's girl scout troop. Lois enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved to travel with Frank to VA and FL when he retired to visit family and friends. She loved to be with her 3 grandsons, watching them play all sorts of sports, playing in band concerts and more. She was an avid reader of books, especially books by John Grisham and it was almost certain you could find her doing a puzzle as she watched Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy with Frank at night. In the last year of her life Lois grew to love the music of Queen and would play it in her car and at home. Lois was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed and always loved. A life celebration and calling hours will be held on July 26, 2023 from 10AM to 12PM with service immediately following, at Arkport Presbyterian Church, Main Street, Arkport. Interment will be in Lake View Cemetery, Groveland. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Arkport Presbyterian Church.
