Obituary of Marilyn Jane (Grove) Mahl

Dansville/NC- Marylin Grove Mahl passed away peacefully in North Carolina on August 29, 2019, with loving family at her side.

Marilyn was born on May 28, 1930, in Kenmore NY to John and Ethel Grove and lived there through her graduation from Buffalo University in 1952, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics Education.

Marilyn married Alan Robert Mahl and together they raised their family of three children. She was by her beloved husband's side for 61 years until his death in 2013. Before they settled in Dansville New York in 1974, Marilyn and Al lived across in many locations including in New Jersey, Rochester and Connecticut. Marilyn worked for the Dansville school system for a few years before starting her 21-year career at the Dansville Public Library. Marylin loved her time at the library and remained close to many of her coworkers and patrons and truly enjoyed her time with the Dansville High School Pages. Some of her favorite past times included reading, walking, jigsaw puzzles and knitting. Certainly, some of her happiest times were spent with dogs as she was so fond of their company. Marilyn was a devout Christian and an active member of the United Methodist Church where she worshipped for 45 years. Her generosity of heart was seen in her volunteer spirit, delivering for Meals on Wheels and working at the Dansville Library book drives.

Marilyn was a loving mother and grandmother who will be missed dearly. She was pre-deceased by her husband Alan (2013), her son Jonathan (2018) and brother Richard Grove (2017). She is survived by her daughter Jennifer Mahl of Dansville and son Timothy Mahl and his wife Tracy of Wake Forest, North Carolina and grandchildren Tara Shaffer, Zachary Mahl, Samuel and Daniel Mahl.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 11 am at the Dansville United Methodist Church. The family wishes to recognize Transitions Life Care hospice of Raleigh, NC for their delicate care of Marilyn in her last days.
