Dansville- Gerrard "Bud" Maltby age 91, went to be with the LORD on February 9, 2018 at Elderwood Nursing Home in Hornell, NY. He was born in Dansville, NY on November 21, 1926, the son of Azel W. Maltby and Lois Hill Maltby. He was a graduate of Dansville Central High School, class of 1944'

On August 12, 1950, he was married to Norma Lang Maltby, 67 years, who survives. He was predeceased by his father, Azel W. Maltby, mother, Lois Hill Maltby, a sister, Eileen Kuch, and two sons, James Edward Maltby and Kevin Gerrard Maltby.

He was employed in retailing for many years at the Market Basket store on Main Street in Dansville, then worked as Manager at the Wayland Market Basket store. He, also, worked for Vernon R. Lent's gas station, the F.R. Henty Lumber Yard, and the Lucidol Division of the Penn Walt Corp., now Arkema, Inc., Piffard, NY, in which he retired, February 1991, after 26 years of employment. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club at Lucidol. While employed at Lucidol, he drove school bus part-time for Dansville School District.

"Bud" was a WWII Army Veteran who proudly served his country in 1945 and 1946 with the 193rd Tank Battalion on the Island of Okinawa, Japan and later with Battery A 586th AAA Battalion, Army of Occupation. He received the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Army of Occupation Medal and State of New York Medal for Merit.

He was a member of Daniel Goho Post 87 of the American Legion. He, with his wife, Norma, became charter members in 1981 of Grace Baptist Church in Dansville. "Bud" faithfully worked on the construction of the church. He served as a Deacon, he was on the Building Committee, Church Property Committee, Church Treasure and an usher for many years.

After his retirement, Bud and Norma enjoyed camping, serving in the CAP program which included assisting the staff and campers at NYS Campgrounds. Among other activities, they travelled to Florida during the winter months for several years, then experienced many bus guided trips around the United States. "Bud" truly enjoyed many projects at church, such as riding "Big Red," the lawnmower. He regularly and faithfully looked over the church property always making sure windows were closed, doors locked, sidewalks shoveled, and so many other things. These things he truly enjoyed and loved doing. In June of 2010, Bud had the honor to be escorted by his son Kevin and visited the WWII Memorial in Washington DC on the Honor Flight program.

Surviving in addition to his wife Norma are two daughters, Kathleen "Kathy" Maltby, Karen (Gary) Campbell, a daughter in-law, Janeene Maltby, eight grandchildren, Jodi Campbell, Rachel Sovocool, Jonathan Campbell, Maria Campbell, Emily Campbell and Benjamin (Tracie) Campbell, Lindsey Kowal, Gregory Maltby, and four great-grandchildren. Sister in-law Carol (Donald) Quibell, brother's in-law Bud (Dorothy) Lang, Donald Lang, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Tuesday from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Grace Baptist Church in Dansville where a funeral service will be held at the completion of calling hours with the Rev. David Theobald officiating. Following fulle military honors Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville. Arrangements are by the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc. 271 Main St. Dansville. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Grace Baptist Church.
