My Grandfather inspired me to learn History through the Civil War. His stories he told us as kids will always be remembered. His own adventures growing up just like Billie Magpie a lesson in each one.

Anne and family, so sorry to hear of your loss. It made me smile to read his obituary because he was a man of smiles. Mom worked for him and they had many great times. You all became family friends from then on. He was a hard working man and will be missed by many. Thinking of you all.

With 50+ years of memories, it's hard to put into words the few that meant the most. I would have to say it is the things I learned from my dad ... honor, integrity, hard work, faith, family. His love was un-ending, his patience would rival Job's, and he would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. I miss him already.

It saddens me that I didn't know him as well as a great niece should, however, the times I had the pleasure of being in his company were amazing. Grandpa Louie now has a hunting partner and I'm sure you guys are looking down watching over all of us! Love you nick

This wonderful man entered our lives over 11 years ago. We will never forget the out pouring of love and tears but mostly acceptance. He came into our lives at a time that was to be a blessing when our son was killed about 2 weeks later. He came back to Maine and stayed with us for days helping us cope with our sudden loss. We truly believe faith made this happen. He and his wife and families are a reflection of love and devotion. We will miss our Uncle Nick and will always remember his generosity and big heart. Our deepest condolences to Aunt Anne and the whole Van Durme Clan.VYOF

Nick Van Durme was always larger than life. He gave me my first real job, in the fabric department in the basement of the Outdoor store, I spent so much time in the Van Durme household growing up, and he and Anne always treated me like another of their children. I'll always remember his big booming voice as he strided into a room. Much love to all of you.

Nick and I worked together on St Mary;s Scouts-School and Church projects for years having children who were classmates. I usually got a smile and wink from across the aisle in church on Sundays. Sure will miss that.
My love and prayers to Anne and all his children and siblings.

Dear Matt and Family,
Our hearts and prayers go out to you and your family at this more difficult time. After reading your Dad's biography, it was evident that he was a truly accomplished man, not only in his community, but career, business and family. Use those fond memories of the camping trips to brige your sorrows...I must admit, the picture of you ALL in the station wagon must have been a hoot. Stay blessed and sincere condolences from your friends in EMC C & C Group.

It's hard to refer to him as Nick when my whole life he was Mr. VanDurme. He and his great family and my family all grew up on Quay St. We were all great friends and later on he became my boss at the OutDoor store. I hold many great memories of Nick. He was a great father, husband and friend. My prayers are with all in this sad time. I know he is looking down on us all with a smile.

Our memories of Nick will be his smile and his hello as we would see him when we walked at the Rod and Gun Club and he was checking his blue bird houses. He truly was a great man and will certainly be missed by all.

I remember Nick doing volunteer work at St. Mary's Annex. He always stopped to ask how our daughter who is a nun was doing and tell me how Father Patrick was. He was a kind and thoughtful person.

Nick was always an encouragement to me - well there was this one time at the store but we won't go there. He gave me a beautiful tomato once. He had one plant growing by his home and gave the one tomato to me, I was going through a very tough time and that tomato tasted more wonderful then any I had ever had before. Nick was loved here on earth. He shared that love with many. Can't go wrong with love.

Dad showed by example, every day of his life, that the greatest joys are found in service or simply "taking care of each other". He took care of his wife, his family, his church, his town.
Now he is getting taken of in Heaven - he earned it!
