Donald Glenn Miller Sr. Obituary
Dansville NY- Donald Glenn Miller Sr., age 81, peacefully passed away at his home in Dansville NY, May 8, 2026.
Born in Hudson, NY on March 4, 1945, he was the son of the late Leeland and Sarah (Sigler) Miller and one of 14 children.
Donald proudly served in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1967, earning the National Defense Service Medal. Following his honorable discharge, he spent the next seventeen years in the Army National Guard.
On July 4, 1980, he married Linda (Umbach) Miller, an event he described as “starting out with a bang”. He was truly a man of many talents. Having held many jobs over his lifetime, his spirit of duty carried into his career at the Groveland State Correctional Facility, where he was respected for his craftsmanship and skill. His hands and mind were rarely still; valuing hard work; he valued hard play just as much. In his free time, he loved to hunt, fish, golf, joke and share a laugh. Don’s love for woodworking and carpentry left behind beautiful tangible reminders of his talent. Equally legendary was his skill at the grill; Don was the undisputed master of the pig roast. Whether he was slow cooking for a backyard crowd or manning the pits for a community fundraiser, he found his greatest joy in feeding people. He poured that same energy into countless benefit events, using his talents to ensure that no one went hungry, and every cause was well-supported. His mischievous nature was contagious, and he never failed in roping others into his pranks. One of his most beloved talents was his ability to recount these tricks and spin tall tales of his many adventures. Don never met a stranger and had a generous heart. Whether at the American Legion or a backyard gathering, his laughter and 'partying' spirit were the heartbeat of the room. He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back—or buy you a new one and a beer to go with it. He was just as generous with his time, always willing to lend a helping hand-cut the grass, build a garden, and remodel a house. Donald took great pride in his family and loved big. One of his greatest joys were his grandchildren; to whom he became “PopPop.” Babies loved PopPop, and he never hesitated when one needed rocking...from that point forward PopPop became a staple at ball games and birthday parties, always reminding them “PopPop loves you”. Over the years, he became PopPop to any of the children who knew him, and always made time for moments of silliness and spoiling.
Surviving is his wife of 45 years Linda (Umbach) Miller, their two sons, Donald (Erin) Miller Jr, Daniel (Candace Rowe) Miller, grandchildren, Ella Miller, Kiersten Pearson, Ava Miller, and Greyson Miller; his brother Leonard (Melody) Miller, sister Margaret Miller, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
