Carolyn L. Coffey Obituary

In Loving Memory of Carolyn L Coffey

Carolyn, the beloved matriarch and guiding light of our family, passed away on April 10, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of warmth that will never dim.

She was born in Bath, NY on March 5, 1948, a daughter of the late Vincent and Alice (Brady) Polmanteer. She was also predeceased by a granddaughter Delainey Knights and brothers Edward and William Polmanteer.

Carolyn was a faithful member of the Holy Family Catholic Community at St. Mary's Church in Dansville. She retired after a distinguished 38-year career with the Finger Lakes DDSO, though her commitment didn't end there; she remained a passionate, lifelong advocate for those she served. Carolyn also poured her heart into supporting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Shriners Children's Hospital, frequently organizing events and volunteering her time to champion their missions. She was the rare kind of soul who loved unconditionally, offering a safe harbor to anyone who needed it. To her children and grandchildren, she was more than just the head of the family; she was our greatest confidante. She was the "best secret keeper" we ever knew—a vault for our fears, dreams, and mistakes, always responding with grace instead of judgment. She lived by a simple but profound philosophy: she looked past everyone's flaws, choosing instead to see only the best in them. Though she held many titles, her favorite role was being the person we all turned to. She never let a phone call end or a door close without her signature parting words: "Love you more" While she may no longer be here to say it, we feel that love in every memory she left behind.

For nearly 60 years, she was married to the love of her life, John. Their enduring partnership was a testament to devotion and a foundation for the entire family. Carolyn found great joy in the beauty of creation. An avid crafter, she was rarely seen without a project in her hands. Whether she was scrapbooking memories, coloring, making handmade cards, or capturing life through a camera lens, she poured her soul into everything she made. Her talents extended to woodworking and painting, and she cherished the hours spent "making" alongside her dear friends and family.

She is survived by her devoted husband, John; her children Michele (Mike Klien), Micheal (Tracey), Debbie, Gwen (Will Horton), Chris Lang; her grandchildren Melissa (Marty), Kristin (Matt), Janine (Sean), Danny, Julie (Timmy), Tim (Stephanie), Johnny (Makayla), Katie (Ryan), Hayley. Many great grandchildren and nieces and nephews; her sister Debbie Dennison and brother Vincent (Roxanne) Polmanteer; Sister in-laws Pam Alexandria (Lynn), Christine (Larry) Lippincott and Jennifer Coffey (Ryan); and a community of friends who will carry her lessons of kindness and loyalty forever
